Teresa is proof that success is sweet.
Famous among her friends and family for her amazing espresso flan* as well as her love of photography, Teresa knew she wanted to learn more about starting her own business and bring her passions to the next level. After many years of staying home with her four children, ages 2 to 14 years old, Teresa wanted to increase her income while doing what she loved. She also wanted to be a good role model for her children, so Teresa began to look for guidance on how to launch her own business.
Teresa connected with LiveAble through her children’s school, Hawes Elementary School in Redwood City. Last year, LiveAble entered into a partnership with Hawes to serve the families of Hawes students, many of whom live in the North Fair Oaks neighborhood of Redwood City, an area that is extremely under-resourced. LiveAble is serving forty women and their families at Hawes, including Teresa and her children. Since joining LiveAble, Teresa has not missed a single session and she brings passion and enthusiasm to the entire cohort.
Yesenia Cruz, Teresa’s LiveAble Coach and a small business owner herself, felt an immediate connection to Teresa because of their shared interest in entreperneurship. Yesenia is also a recent LiveAble graudate and gained a lot of her business savvy through mentoring from LiveAble volunteers as well as resources she found through LiveAble. Being able to pass along her knowledge has been especially rewarding.
With Yesenia’s help, Teresa now has a plan for building a successful business. Understanding the importance of building a network of business contacts, Yesenia helped Teresa design and print her first business cards and coached Teresa through enrolling in a photography class to hone her skills. Teresa has also invested in a camera and looks forward to being the photographer at her daughter’s upcoming quinceañera. Watch Teresa’s video to hear more about Teresa’s goals!
Through the LiveAble program, Able Works makes these paths to sweet success possible. So many of our friends and neighbors, like Teresa and Yesenia, are highly motivated to make a better life for themselves, and simply need some guidance and mentorship to start on their paths.
