Dani Mejia Cruz, Achievable Program Manager
What drew you to Able Works? The team is a great combination of passionate and intelligent people who combine practical data-based planning with community development. The team comes from a place of humility and seeks partnership with those in the community instead having a savior’s mentality.
What/who inspires you? The belief in Hope in the world inspires me. As for specific people, I would say my family, who continues to put in the work towards healing, my community who is resilient and caring at the same time, and my former college professor Dr. Katrina Greene, who first introduced me to community work that focused on the strengths of the community.
How do you know you are making a difference? Little things like seeing a student grow more confident in their abilities and their value are signs that I am making a difference.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given? Two things: 1) It’s possible to have a strong backbone and a soft heart at the same time and 2) Continue to extend grace to yourself AND others.
